死亡金属（Death Metal），是重金属音乐的一个极端子流派。通常地，死亡金属会采用降调且重度失真的吉他、深喉咆哮的人声，并配以强劲有力的鼓击。编曲上，死亡金属通常采用小调调性或无调性，以突然的变奏、变调和变拍为特点。演奏上，吉他演奏涉及手掌闷音（Palm Muting）和快速碎拨（Tremolo Picking）等技巧，鼓的演奏则涉及双踩和Blast Beat技巧。
1980年代中期，以鞭挞金属（Thrash Metal）和早期黑金属（Black Metal）的音乐架构为基础，死亡金属开始出现。
